The arrest took place in Mulungu, a municipality in the northeastern Brazilian state of Paraíba.

Authorities had been searching for da Silva in connection with a series of violent deaths in the surrounding region.

Police established a search operation that lasted more than 30 hours.

When officers finally located da Silva, he appeared to have attempted to make himself considerably less recognizable.
