A Dad Came Home Early From Work — Prosecutors Say What He Found in His Bedroom Ended in Murder, With His Two Toddlers in the Room
Neighbors called him “easy going, never upset.” Then came the 4 a.m. shouts on a quiet Anaheim street.

It was still dark on North Pine Street in Anaheim.
A quiet block. Small homes. Families asleep.
And inside one of those homes, a father of two had just walked through his own front door — earlier than anyone expected.
By sunrise, a 28-year-old man would be dead.
A 34-year-old dad would be charged with murder.
And prosecutors would say two little children, ages 2 and 4, were in the room for all of it.
The Dad Nobody Worried About
To the neighbors, he was the last person you’d expect to see in the back of a police car.
His name is Ismael Pinedalopez.
He’s 34. He lived in the home with his wife and their two young kids — a 2-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son.
Next-door neighbor Elizabeth Polanco, 71, told the California Post that he worked nights.
And during the day, while his wife went to work, he was the one looking after the children.
“He was always there with the kids,” she said.
She described him as “very nice, easy going, never upset.”
She said she never saw any sign of trouble between the couple.
They were, in her words, “nice people.”
But on Saturday, October 24, something about that routine broke.
Home Early — And Not Alone
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Pinedalopez came home early from work that day.
He went to the bedroom.
The bedroom he shared with his wife.
And the bedroom where his two little kids slept, too.
And that’s when, prosecutors say, he found him.
A man he didn’t expect.
In his bed.
In his underwear.
Next to his wife.
With his 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son right there in the room.
The man was 28-year-old Nicholas Garcia of Whittier.
What Happened in That Bedroom
Prosecutors say Pinedalopez confronted Garcia.
And it didn’t end with shouting.
According to the DA’s office, he stabbed Garcia multiple times with a pocketknife.
Garcia died at the scene.
Pinedalopez’s wife was not hurt.
The two children were not hurt.
At least, not physically.
But that’s not the part that has people reeling.
It was who was watching.
“Truly Heartbreaking”
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer didn’t hold back.
“Violence is never the answer, and it is truly heartbreaking that these young children had to witness their father commit such a horrific act of brutality in their own home,” he said.
Two toddlers.
Their own bedroom.
Their own dad.
And a man who would never leave that room alive.
The 4 A.M. Shouts on Pine Street
The neighbor says she heard the commotion.
Around 4:15 a.m., Polanco told the California Post, she heard police yelling “get out” at the house.
When officers arrived at the home in the 700 block of North Pine Street, they found Pinedalopez bloodied.
Inside, they found Garcia’s body in the bedroom.
A neighbor’s video, obtained by the California Post, shows what happened next.
Pinedalopez walking out of the house.
Calm.
Two officers guiding him toward patrol cars with their lights flashing.
No struggle. No scene.
Just a dad who, hours earlier, had been the guy watching the kids all day.
The Wife Who Stayed
And then there’s the woman at the center of it all.
Polanco said she was surprised by the affair allegation.
She called the wife a “very good girl” — but said she might have been “irresponsible” if the cheating claim is true.
“This is terrible. I never imagined there would be anything scandalous like this,” she said.
And in the days after the killing, the neighbor says the wife leaned on her.
She asked Polanco to watch her little daughter while she ran an errand.
Life, somehow, still had to go on for those two kids.
What He’s Facing Now
Pinedalopez has been charged with one felony count of murder.
Prosecutors also added an enhancement for personal use of a weapon.
If he is convicted on all counts, he faces up to 26 years to life in prison.
- Charge: one felony count of murder, plus a weapon enhancement
- Maximum sentence: 26 years to life
- Next court date: arraignment and bail review set for Dec. 1, according to court records cited by the California Post
- Prosecutor: Senior Deputy DA Mark Birney of the OC Homicide Unit
He has hired an attorney, George Karl Rosenstock, the Post reported.
He has not been convicted of any crime, and the case will play out in court.
The Question Nobody Can Answer
Online, the reaction has split hard.
Some people say they can’t imagine walking in on that scene.
Others say nothing — nothing — justifies killing a man in front of your own children.
But the people who will carry this the longest aren’t the ones arguing on the internet.
They’re a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.
Their dad is in jail.
A man is dead.
And the room where it happened was their bedroom.
